What heat?

Ever since our new HVAC system was installed, the chances of it actually working have been about 50/50. So today, after having five different technicians out (some staying until 10 PM certain nights) our heat is finally working.

Fingers crossed that we don't wake up to another ice box on Christmas morning!

Time to get ready for the Christmas Eve service with the parents and Aunt Val, followed by dinner at the Paulk's. Merry Christmas everyone.

Did someone say flood?

Well today started out pretty...unplanned?

I left for work pretty early this morning while Charles stayed at home to meet with the mold company at the kennel. They have been working for the last few weeks down there on the mold remediation and were here on their final day to pick up their supplies and do a final walk-thru. I was about 30 minutes away from home when Charles called frantically to tell me that "the roof collapsed" at the kennel. PANIC MODE-the mold remediation group called in a crew of workers immediately. Apparently a pipe had broken in the ceiling of the kennel in two places and had been running for at least 24 hours. The entire drywall and insulation from the ceiling had fallen in. It was a total mess. A crew of workers showed up quickly and worked from 8 AM until 10 PM. They filled a large dumpster with all the debris and brought in 30+ fans and air-scrubbers to run for the next couple weeks.

So, back home that afternoon, working in my office and listening to as much Christmas music as possible, I see something out of the corner of my eye. Lo and behold...IT'S A MOUSE! He scurries into my office under the door, stops for a few seconds, looks at me (all while I'm frozen in place) and then scurries back out.

Of course I call Charles in a panic! His response? "So you finally saw him, huh?" Apparently the first mouse sightings had not been brought to my attention. Well, just add that to the to-do list...

FROZEN

We are having record low temps here in Atlanta and it is still snowing. Although it isn't sticking to the ground, it has been coming down most of the day. Before heading to the farm, I stopped by the Shaker Hollow house to shower. I just didn't know what to expect when we turned the shower on at the new house...

Charles and I both got to the farm early to start moving in and getting things settled. We left the dogs at Shaker Hollow for the day since we would be moving things around and didn't want them in the way. I figured it would be less stressful if we picked them up at the end of the day for a trip out.

Unpacking didn't go as fast as I had hoped, mainly because the thermostat inside our house read somewhere in the 40's. I had so many layers on but it just didn't seem to help. Somewhere along the way, I lost my gloves...and I still haven't found them.

Before bed, I ended up volunteering to be the first one to try out the shower. I was so cold I figured the hot water would be nice to dethaw before I went to sleep. So here goes nothing...turn on the shower while Charles goes down into the dark basement with a flashlight. We had suspected there was some sort of leak so he was going to watch it while I ran the water. Well yes, there was a small leak, but since it was just going into our empty, gutter basement, it was just going to have to leak. Thank goodness the plumber is scheduled for Tuesday.

It only took about 10 minutes for the hot water to reach the shower and once I was in there, well, it didn't want to come back out. It was SO cold in our house. I had 2 space heaters and the hair dryer running to keep the bathroom warm. So what started out as a challenge, has become routine now. Shower (which takes a lifetime in itself because the water pressure is so low), dry off as fast as possible, pile on 2-4 layers and jump into bed under 5 blankets and a heated mattress pad. Brrrrrr....

So the dogs are tucked into the laundry room with a nice little heater (Chloe is wearing her snuggie) and it is time to get some sleep.

The Fun Begins

We moved all of our stuff (well everything except the furniture we left at Shaker Hollow for staging) out to the farm today...in the snow...with the temps in the teens. Keep in mind, we have no heat STILL. Thank goodness we had two of the guys from Computer Movers and both of our Dad's to help. We decided to call it a day in the late afternoon when the movers left. It was just too unbearable to move much more in the freezing house and the snow was coming down fast outside.

Tomorrow will be a big day to start the unpacking process. Tonight we are splitting up to stay at each of our parents' houses. We decided 4 dogs was too much for one house. Finn and Bogey are shacking up with me at my parent's and Charles took Chloe and Auggie. Time to get some shut eye...it's going to be a long week!
