Yesterday was a day that I'm sure many people across the Southeast would like to forget. Deadly tornadoes ripped paths and terrorizing everything in their route for miles and miles. I'm not sure we will know the full extent of the damage for many days to come.
As the meteorologists were reporting on the storms headed our way, I realized I had NO idea where exactly we were on the map. Canton is so foreign to me and I have been hesitant about learning my way around outside of my comfort zone (Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Roswell). I need to force myself to turn off the GPS and just get lost.
So after a little more research, I know exactly where we are in relation to the county maps. :)

The Virgo Wedding
George and Anna had the most amazing wedding yesterday by the river! It was so intimate and sweet~I can't imagine anything more perfect for them. It was followed by a wonderful lunch in Roswell at a place called Greenwood's. The company, food and drinks were just fabulous. They timed it just so the coaches (and rowers) could make it in time for the buses leaving for a regatta right afterwards.
Here are some of my favorite pictures from the wedding!

They Call This Work?
As a pet sitter I have learned that there is no such thing as ordinary. No day is the same. You never know what you're going to find on the job and it always keeps you on your toes. When I got a call from an existing client about this assignment, I jumped at the opportunity.
Oliver and LuLu are furkids of one of our clients and I was to escort them to the wedding of their "Mom and Dad', wait during the ceremony, and then bring them home. It was quite an adventure! I got to sit thorugh a beautiful ceremony at the Atlanta History Center on the Swan House Lawn.

And We Are Under Contract!
This is it...what we have been waiting to hear! In the past 36 hours we have gotten an offer on the Shaker Hollow house, countered back and forth several times, and we are now under contract.

A Swim In The Pond
Well the ducks have been out in the barn for the past few nights. During the day they spend their time foraging through the grass eating bugs and whatever else they can find. Today I got the *grand* idea of taking them out to the pond for a swim.
I herded them through the gate and towards the water...and they LOVED it! Here is a video of them swimming in the pollen-covered water.
Well, about two hours after the beginning of their swimming session, dark storm clouds started to roll in. Me being the "Momma Duck" I am raced down to the pond to try and herd them back towards the barn so they would be safely in their stall while the storms passed. Well, that was much easier said than done. After some failed attempts to get them out of the water with food, I had mud up to my knees and not much patience left.
Charles and I teamed up to get them inside, just as rain drop started falling. He had to take the john boat out in the water to steer them towards the shore. I was waiting on the shore and ready to grab which ever duck came my way. Sounds simple right? No. Instead of heading towards me, they walked deep into thorny brush and mud. The rain was getting harder and the thunder was getting louder.
I kept climbing after them deeper and deeper into the brush while my feet sank a foot in mud with each step. They turned away from the water and started walking further up the shore and I caught up with them once they got to the fence. At that point, I had 5 ducks scattering in all directions so I knew I had to catch the ring leader (on of the mallards) and the rest would follow. I grabbed him first and tossed him onto the other side of the fence (the area where their barn is), while the rest of the ducks had no idea who to follow. I caught 3 with the next swipe and sent them over the fence one by one. I grabbed the last duck and we headed toward the barn, just in time for the clouds to open up. Needless to say, I'm not sure when I will attempt that again...

Growing Up and Growing Feathers
Well I knew this day would come and, over the past few days, it couldn't come fast enough. My ducks aren't babies anymore! We spent most of yesterday prepping the barn for its new inhabitants. We went to the feed store and stocked up on bedding, food and some hardware to get the barn touched up.
Our big white barn is a bit on the creepy side. We haven't gotten the electricity to turn on down there yet so it is rather dark inside some of the middle stalls. The barn was built on a concrete slab which is a bonus to me, however there are quite a few places where our resident groundhog(s) has dug holes around the perimeter. All in all, the barn needs a LOT of work, but for now, it will be a great place for the ducks.
My main concern with the feathered babies being outside is predators. Coyotes, raccoons, hawks~these are just a few of the creatures that would love to gobble up a duck feast. For now, we have taken one of our large dog crates and placed it inside of the stall so they will have the added protection of the crate at night.

So far, looks like they are enjoying their new digs.
