The Sky is Falling!

Things are falling around here today...

Earlier this afternoon, I noticed that the light cover in our laundry room seemed to be falling. Apparently the cover to our giant fluorescent light is plastic...but of course me thinking it was glass I went into panic mode. I grabbed the step stool and proceeded to break it while attempting to "save the day." Hey, at least I got it down and it didn't fall and crash.

A few hours later, it was time for dinner. As most dog owners know, doggie dinner time is a BIG deal. Around here, with multiple dogs, it is a HUGE deal. Our kitchen turns into a commercial kitchen when dog food bowls are being prepped. It is always a multi-tasking fiasco...foods being mixed, meds being prepped, empty bowls being washed...you can try to imagine. So as the dishes are being washed I hear a thud...and open the cabinet to find that our (brand new) garbage disposal is now laying on it's side in the bottom of our cabinet. My Swiffer dusters didn't survive the wrath of soapy, dog-food laden waters.

Yes, that is the disposal in the back...

Thank goodness Charles came home and fixed the disposal. The light will have to wait because, honestly, I want to replace that hideous fluorescent fixture anyways.

It's the Little Things

I don't know much of the background of our home. I know it was built in 1950, an addition was added in 2004, and the most recent owner foreclosed on the property. Other than that, we can only guess.

What I DO know, is how you can take the little things around your house for granted...and when people steal them, they are very much missed.

A couple of things that were taken from our house sometime between the time the previous owners left and the year later when we closed...

~HVAC unit from the guest house...outdoor unit and furnace.
~Toilet paper holders...all that remains are the holes in the wall.
~Cabinet hardware from the kitchen...just a couple of odd rooster-shaped knobs in the main house, and all the hardware in the guest house kitchen.
~Doorknobs from all exterior doors...replaced by the bank with tiny, cheap handles. They left some lovely holes in our doors from the previous handles.
~About half of the window screens.
~An exterior door (that had to be special ordered) on the guest house. Don't worry...they replaced it by nailing a smaller sized door up.

Happy Valentine's Day!

It's been about two weeks since the stinky post...and I survived the past two weeks with much help from Yankee Candle's "Home For the Holidays" large jar candle left over from Christmas.

I'm happy to report that the stench is gone...and so is my candle.
